Cotabato City, Philippines - The massive accumulation of water hyacinths from Liguasan Marsh that have clogged the waterways surrounding Matampay Bridge finally removed, Monday, May 24, 2021.

After 2 days of massive removal using a backhoe and a water master, the City Engineering Office finally cleared the 2.8 hectares of water hyacinths.

Cotabato City Engineering Officer, Engineer Samuel Joralan, said the invasive water hyacinths in Matampay River and clogged drainage system in the city have contributed to the recent flooding where 60 percent out of the 37 barangays in Cotabato City were submerged in water.

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, the City Engineering Office is scheduled to conduct declogging operations in different barangays in Cotabato City.
